About Rachel Kahn | Vermont Knitter

A life long knitter since age six, I design and create unique one-of-a-kind
hats using only locally raised and sustainably produced fibers from New England farms and artisans.
Each original design reflects a long standing exploration of historical and traditional knitted forms, texture and color in a contemporary work of wearable art. Fine details are abundant throughout each hat; on the surface as well as the interior. Each hat is lined with fine, hand spun rabbit angora and finished exquisitely. These hats reflect traditional forms composed in contemporary style creating a unique piece of wearable art.
As one of the most showcased forms of wearable art, the hat is an ideal structure for ornamentation, adorning the wearer and delighting the observer. Each hand knitted hat is an original design, made entirely of locally produced fiber resulting in a true and lasting New England treasure.
My current goals as a fiber artist include developing the ‘crown’ form, rich with embellishment, working with locally produced yarns and reflecting the results of researching and knitting a range of antique lace and traditional cable and twisted stitch patterns and decorative trims. With the aim of advancing the vibrant art and craft of hand knitting, I am progressing through the Master Hand Knitter Certification program of The Knitting Guild of America, a rigorous program that includes hands-on and historical research.
